This APEGG training course is for production personnel who need to know how to identify and rectify forming defects in glass container manufacturing (bottle & jar). During this course students learn the fundamentals about defect cause & prevention, covering the NNPB, BB and PB process. This training course is split into 5 topics: Glass container parts: Understand the different container parts such as Finish, Neck, Shoulder, Body, Heel and Base. Learn the definition & functionality of each part. Defect identification: Using the APEGG defect categories; Appearance, Damage, Fracture, Inclusion, Physical and Protrusion; the student will learn how to quickly inspect a glass container (bottle or jar) for defects. Defect classification: Gives an understanding of the defect severity (critical, major or minor), and how to deal with this defect in the production process from a quality assurance point of view. Cause & Prevention: The method of cause analysis and defect prevention will be explained. The student will learn the fundamentals of defect causes to better understand how to prevent defects. Production & Quality Communication: To have a speedy defect rectification it is necessary that there is a structured communication between the production and quality departments, this will be discussed.

This course gives the inside and understanding of why there are defects and how to apply the remedies in a controlled manner, and finally what’s the way to prevent forming defects.
It can be useful for quality personnel to attend this course as it will give an understanding how to identify a forming defect and what kind of information must be passed to the production personnel to allow a quick defect rectification.
All active students will have access to the APEGG Glass Container - Forming Defects App (web application) for one(1) calendar year. This application provides information (such as name, cause and prevention) of more than 100 different forming defects, giving the student a live information resource.
