Mould design review can save the glass bottle and jar producers a lot of time and money. By reviewing a mould design it is possible to discover why the equipment is not performing as expected. In some cases, it is possible that the mould design is correct, but the forming process parameters are not. APEGG will review the parison layout, mould equipment drawings, quality report and machine/process set-up parameters to understand what the cause for the low performance is. APEGG’s 2 steps to find the root cause: 1. Assessment: APEGG will discuss with the glass manufacturer or filler the performance issues with the container in question, e.g. low internal pressures, impact failure etc. The production data such as feeder set-up, machine set-up, speed, quality control, packaging will be analysed. 2. Review: The complete mould design will be studied in conjunction with the production/quality data. This information will be compared with the APEGG standards for mould design and based on the findings a recommendation for modification will be put forward. APEGG will submit a report that contains all the recommendations and actions that are necessary to make the improvements, it will cover the forming process parameters and mould design.
