Ring size calculator

This Gob / Orifice Calculator allows glass makers to determine the required refractory orifice ring size (diameter) based on the ideal glass gob for the production run. Enter the glass container weight (bottle or jar) and select the desired length/diameter ratio of the gob - the calculator will do the rest. The calculator has two modes, BASIC and ADVANCED.

Why use this calculator?

With this calculator the user can determine the orifice ring size according to the actual gob weight. Whereas charts only allow the selection of the orifice size based on the approximate weight and not the actual weight.

What is the gob weight range?

The calculator is capable to run calculations of orifice ring sizes based on gob weights from 11 to 1701g.

What can you do in BASIC mode?

Glass container mould designers who want to calculate the ideal gob for the blank mould can quickly calculate the orifice ring size based on the container weight and changing the length to diameter ratio. The production specialist can quickly determine the orifice ring size based on the ideal gob and the and I.S. forming machine size (number of sections).

What can you do in ADVANCED mode?

Glass makers who want to calculate the orifice ring size based on the actual blank cavity length, baffle match diameter and different glass density values. It is also possible to determine the size of the gob delivery equipment (scoop, trough and deflector). This is useful for job change preparation.

How to get access to the ADVANCE mode?

The ADVANCED mode is available for glass makers who are looking to use the calculator for job change preparation. It will be required to set-up the calculator for the particular glass plant upon first use. For more details contact APEGG.
